Hello, Welcome to My Measuring Cup!
I am Beverly, also known by family and close friends as “Beve”. That is pronounced as Bev with then a long E on the end.
I am a self-proclaimed bake-ologist. I like the science behind baking, the anticipation of how a new creation will turn out, and seeing the OH YUM on people’s faces with that first bite.
With my frequent baking (okay, almost daily), one could reasonably wonder if I am a dessert-etarianand/or bread-etarian. I promise, I do cook real meals that are balanced with all the food groups , but those meal creations are not as imaginative and inspiring as with baking.

Welcome to My Measuring Cup …Beve Bakes and Decorates
Being a nurse of almost forty years (oh my, how can that be??), I appreciate the many parallels with the act of baking to the science of pharmacology. Each baking ingredient is much like a medication (chemical compound) that comes along with an action, reaction, and potential side effects.
Knowing the right combination and order of ingredients is essential to ensure a wonderful and successful bake. I enjoy experimenting with ingredients to see what I can create.
Cake decorating connects me to the WOW of art and the love of crafting.
I marvel over the creativity and talent people display with their inventions when admiring their work. This inspires my creative side and desire to see what I can dream up and create. The wheels start turning and thoughts start flowing about a variety different things that could be turned into a baked form.
My goal
In nursing there is a saying, “Learn one, Do one, Teach one.”
My goal is to Learn one fabulous and creative bake at a time, master the technique through a lot of practice (the Do) and then Teach these creative bakes by providing step by step instructions.
My Taste Testers

I have 3 official taste testers according to them. They can frequently be found wondering near the kitchen when I am baking. They are always so hopeful that something tasty will bounce off the counter top onto the floor. Usually, it is just sprinkles of flour, but they hang around in hopes that there will be something yummy.
Unofficial Taste Tester

This is my husband John. I refer to him, as my unofficial taste tester because I believe he is a little bit bias. He has yet to tell me that he does not like something that I have baked. If it is chocolate, it is wonderful in his eyes no matter what. It will be the best thing he has ever had at that moment. I can ask him, how is the texture? Is it moist enough? His standard reply is “it is awesome”.
How it all started
I have enjoyed baking for many many years. Over the last several years, I have been baking frequently, experimenting with recipes, and learning cake designs and decorating techniques. I have posted many of my bakes and creations on my personal FaceBook page to share with my friends. Over and over, I have been told that I should open my own bakery.
My sister asked me if I could make a bee hive birthday cake for one of her friends who is a beekeeper. Of course, I was up for the challenge and excited to see what I could create.
I started off with baking 4 layers of cake. Two of the layers were chocolate and the other two being white cake colored to be a beautiful yellow. The cake was iced in a honey buttercream frosting, covered with white chocolate in a honey comb design, decorated with honey candy drips and had bees all over that were made out of fondant and almond slices.
Many people asked for the recipe and instructions on how to construct the cake. It was then that I realized that my love for baking and creating bake goods could be shared through a blog. I could share my successes, lessons learned, and hopefully inspire others to bake items they once never dreamed of trying by providing step-by-step instructions.
What’s in the Name?

Being a self-taught baker, I have strived in my learning process to meet what I believe to be the requirements, standards, and expectations that I would expect if I were purchasing my bakes from a bakery.
The name “ My Measuring Cup” is where I place the expectation that I have set for how my recipe creations, my decorating designs, and artistic ideas measured up. It is a mixture of ingredients and techniques to invent and design irresistible bakes.
Through a little bit of practice (okay, maybe a lot for some things), I believed that I have learned many valuable lessons and tricks along the way that I would love to share.
How my Measuring Cup can help you
